Sophomore baseball player Cory Wheeler has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week in an announcement made Monday for the week ending Sunday, April 24.
Wheeler led IUP to a 3-2 record as its season winds down with the sophomore infielder hitting .524 (11-for-21) with four triples and three doubles. He also drove in seven runs, scored five of his own and had a slugging percentage of 1.048.
In a two-game sweep of Pitt-Johnstown Saturday, Wheeler had a pair of two-hit games, while driving in two runs in both games as well. On the year, Wheeler is batting .345, which is good for fourth on the team among players with more than 10 at-bats.
