Sophomore pole vaulter Elizabeth Coppella was named an IUP Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, for the week ending on Sunday, May 8. Coppella broke the IUP women’s outdoor record by clearing 3.70 meters (12-01.50) in the pole vault during last Friday’s SRU Last Chance Qualifier at Slippery Rock University. She now owns both the indoor and outdoor IUP records.
 
Coppella’s height bettered the previous mark by more than seven inches and is tied for third best in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference this season. It was also an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying height.
