Freshman pole vaulter D.J. Horton has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week, for the week ending on Sunday, May 15.
Horton was one of two Crimson Hawks to win an individual event as the Crimson Hawks competed at the PSAC Outdoor Championships this past weekend, winning the pole vault title.
It was the second straight pole vault title for Horton, who also won it at the PSAC Indoor Championships in February. This past weekend, the freshman cleared 4.90 meters (16-0.75), bettering his closest opponent by nearly four inches.
Horton is IUP’s pole vault record holder in both indoor and outdoor, with his personal best mark of 5.10 meters (16-8.75) currently ranking eight in Division II and provisional qualifier for the national championships.
