Senior tennis player Jarka Petercakova has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week, for the week ending on Sunday, October 9. Petercakova teamed with junior Luise von Agris to win the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference doubles title at this weekend's individual league championships in Bloomsburg.
Petercakova and von Agris became the first individual PSAC doubles champs in program history, as the Crimson Hawk duo defeated Claire Uhl and Maddy Shaak of West Chester 8-2 in the doubles championship match.
The pairing advanced to the title match on Sunday with a dominating 8-1 semifinal win over Mercyhurst's Saioa Gomez and Annie Baich, the top seeded team in the bracket. Petercakova and von Agris went a combined 4-0 over the weekend, starting as the No. 4 seed and defeating the top two seeds.
Petercakova nearly pulled a double this weekend, finishing as the runner-up for the singles title.
This is Petercakova's second career IUP Athlete of the Week honor, and her first since May 2015.
