Women's tennis player Jarka Petercakova has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the IUP Sports Information Office on Monday morning.
Petercakova helped the 35th-ranked Crimson Hawks to a perfect week that included three shutout victories over California (Pa.), West Virginia Wesleyan, and West Virginia State. She finished her week with a combined 6-0 record in singles and doubles matches, with five wins coming over opponents ranked in the Atlantic Region.
Petercakova's three singles wins were all two-setters, defeating Cal's Jasi Witherspoon (ranked 12th), Wesleyan's Paula Pimenta (18th), and West Virginia State's Kiersten Hensley (13th) last week. Her ranked doubles wins came easily, with scores of 8-1 and 8-2.
It's Petercakova's fourth career IUP weekly honor, including her second this spring.
