Senior runner Austin Cooper has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the sports information office on Monday, October 2.
Cooper set a new IUP men’s cross country 8K record with a time of 24:35 in the Brown race at Lehigh University’s Paul Short Run on Friday afternoon. He finished first overall out of close to 400 runners in the Brown race, the second toughest men’s race of the weekend, defeating runners from Division I schools such as Richmond, Siena, George Washington and Virginia Commonwealth.
His time beat the old time of 24:50, which was set by Dan Friedrich in 1975.
It was Cooper’s first IUP Athlete of the Week award of the fall and the eighth of his career.
