Junior foward Jacobo Diaz has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the sports information office on Monday, Jan. 22.
He helped lead the Crimson Hawks to a 2-0 week with an 89-82 road win over California (Pa.) on Wednesday and a 69-46 win over Clarion at home on Saturday. The wins helped the surging Crimson Hawks improve to 14-5 overall and a division-leading 10-2 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) record.
Diaz, a junior forward, averaged 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game last week, shooting 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the field and 5-of-7 from the foul line. He didn’t turn the ball over in 63 total minutes, dishing out four assists with two blocks and two steals.
“Cobo” posted his ninth double-double of the year with 15 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday’s win over Clarion, converting 7-of-12 shots from the field. He finished with 17 points and nine rebounds against Cal.
It was Cobo’s first IUP weekly award of the season and the sixth in his career.
