Junior guard Dante Lombardi has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the sports information office on Monday, Jan. 29.
Lombardi helped the IUP men's basketball team to its fourth and fifth straight victories last week, averaging 21.5 points and 6.5 assists in wins over Seton Hill (92-70) and at Mercyhurst (67-65).
It was the best two-game shooting stretch for Lombardi this season, converting 60 percent (15-of-25) from the floor, including 7-of-12 from 3-point range. He was also 6-of-6 from the foul line.
Lombardi tied a career-high with 23 points in the win over Seton Hill, dishing out eight assists with just one turnover in 31 minutes. He followed that up with a 20-point effort at Mercyhurst with five assists and two turnovers.
