Junior pole vaulter DJ Horton has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the IUP Sports Information Office Monday, Feb. 26.
Horton put up a record breaking performance in his pole vault championship, as he cleared 5.12 meters to win Saturday afternoon. His height not only broke his own IUP indoor record, but it also set new PSAC Championship meet and Edinboro facility records in the process.
Already an NCAA provisional qualifier in the event, the 5.12 meters is now the fifth highest mark in Division II this season. It was his second career PSAC Indoor Championship (2016).
This is the third IUP weekly award of 2017-18 for Horton, and the 11th for his career.
