Seniors Ted DeSanti and Luise von Agris have been named IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the IUP Sports Information Office Monday morning.
DeSanti led a power offensive attack for the IUP baseball team this weekend as the Crimson Hawks scored 44 runs in a four-game sweep of divisional foe Clarion. The second baseman hit .714 with four home runs, 12 runs batted in, and had a 1.643 slugging percentage. He had 10 hits on the weekend, with five going for extra base hits.
He bombed two homers in a comeback, 9-8 game victory Saturday, including a game-tying 2-run shot in the bottom of the seventh.
He finished Saturday’s doubleheader against the Golden Eagles a combined 6-for-7 with three homers, a double, eight RBI and four runs scored.
Von Agris had a successful week on the tennis courts, going a combined 9-1 in helping the Crimson Hawks to a 5-0 record, including a 7-2 win over Mercyhurst to clinch the PSAC West title.
She went 5-0 in doubles play, pairing with Jarka Petercakova for an 8-6 win over 24th-ranked Kiersten Hensley and Nina Dillwald of West Virginia State Sunday. Von Agris also went 4-1 in singles play, enacting some revenge on Mercyhurst’s Kayla Frost, who she lost to during the PSAC singles championships in the fall.
On Friday, von Agris broke her third major IUP career record with 104 career doubles victories. She also owns the school’s career singles and combined records.
