IUP golfers Matt Cocorikis and Michael Hoare were named the IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the IUP Sports Information Office Monday morning.
Both golfers finished in the top 10 individually as they helped the Crimson Hawks tie for fourth place at the 2018 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Region Championships last week.
Cocorikis tied for sixth with a two-over 218 during the three-round tournament at The Resort at Glade Springs Cobb Course in Daniels, West Virginia. His best day came in Wednesday's third round, firing a one-under 71 to lead the team.
He totaled 10 birdies during the tournament, including five Wednesday and four during Tuesday's second round. Cocorikis had a consistent week, shooting a one-over 73 Monday and a two-over 74 Tuesday.
Hoare tied for ninth overall at regionals with a four-over 220. He came out firing Monday as he finished the round just one stroke off the lead after shooting a two-under 70. He went on to shoot a two-over 74 Tuesday and five-over 77 Wednesday.
Hoare had an eagle, five birdies, and 37 pars during his tournament. His birdie came during the third round on the 526-yard, par-five fifth hole.
The Crimson Hawks finished in a three-way tie for fourth place out of 20 teams at regionals. The top three teams earned a trip to the NCAA Division II Championships, as they missed out on forcing a playoff with third place Charleston by one stroke.
