Senior quarterback
Lenny Williams Jr. and junior tennis player
Mariana Valenzuela were named IUP Athletes of the Week, which was announced by the IUP Sports Information Office Monday morning.
This is Williams' 10th career IUP weekly award and the first for Valenzuela.
Williams had a big day Saturday in leading the third-ranked IUP football team to a 59-17 win at Lock Haven. The signal caller totaled four touchdowns – three passing, one rushing – to bring his career total to 89 and break the program's all-time touchdown mark.
Williams now has 63 career passing and 26 rushing touchdowns, and moved past Brian Eyerman's (1999-2002) former record of 88 touchdowns.
Williams only played in the first half of Saturday's blowout, and finished 8-of-11 passing for 204 yards and those three scores with 59 rushing yards, including a 35-yard touchdown, on five carries.
Valenzuela had a successful weekend as the IUP women's tennis team competed at the 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region Championships in Erie. She and teammate
Maria Magraner won the "B" doubles bracket title with an 8-3 win over a pairing from Bluefield State.
She also excelled in singles competition, advancing to the "B" bracket championship match before ultimately finishing as the runner-up after a three-set loss to a player from Mercyhurst.
Altogether, Valenzuela finished the weekend with an 8-1 combined record – 4-0 doubles, 3-1 singles.
