Senior soccer forward Kallie Conte and senior field hockey goalie Olivia Accardi were named the IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the IUP sports information office Monday morning.
It’s the first career IUP weekly honor for both student-athletes.
Conte put together a highly productive week with seven points on two goals and three assists to help the Crimson Hawks to a pair of victories over Salem (3-2) and Mansfield (4-1).
Her week was highlighted by her Saturday performance against Mansfield, as she had a hand in all four scores with a goal and three assists in the 4-1 conference win. Conte’s three assists tied a program record as she became the seventh player in IUP history with a trifecta of helpers in a single contest. Her goal came in the ninth minute and she assisted on goals in the 18th, 21st and 35th minutes to give IUP a sizeable halftime lead.
Conte scored her first points of the week Monday at Salem, tying the game at 2-2 in the 79th minute. The Crimson Hawks went on to win 3-2 in double overtime.
Accardi went 1-1 in the cage last week for the Crimson Hawks, highlighted by her second career shutout in a 1-0 victory over rival Slippery Rock in the conference opener Wednesday afternoon. She stopped five shots, including a first half barrage in which she saved three quick shots in a 10 second time span to keep The Rock off the board.
Despite giving up an early goal to seventh-ranked Millersville in Saturday’s road contest, Accardi helped IUP get to double-overtime with the high-scoring Marauders before falling 2-1. Millersville totaled 28 shots on the day, including 19 on goal, as Accardi finished with 14 saves and kept the Marauders scoreless for 80:07 throughout regular and overtime.
