Junior linebacker
Damon Lloyd and senior golfer
Matt Cocorikis were named the IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the IUP Sports Information Office Monday afternoon.
This is Lloyd's second career IUP weekly award, while Cocorikis has four in his career, including three this fall.
Lloyd played a big part in IUP's 24-23 comeback win over Clarion Saturday afternoon at Miller Stadium. Lloyd finished with a game-high 16 tackles, including eight solo stops, with 1.5 tackles-for-loss and a fumble recovery.
That fumble recovery came with seven minutes to play in the fourth quarter with the Crimson Hawks trailing 23-17. Six plays after he got the ball back for his offense, IUP scored a touchdown to take the one-point lead.
Cocorikis finished second individually last week as the IUP men's golf team wrapped up Gannon's Bud Elwell Invitational in Erie. He shot a 4-over 148 during the two-day tournament, four strokes back of the individual medalist. As a team, the Crimson Hawks finished third overall at the tournament.
It was Cocorikis' third top-two finish in three events this fall. He won Clarion's Hal Hansen Invitational and finished second at the Mercyhurst Fall Invitational.
