Men's cross country runners Sam Lenze and Michael Dautlick were named the IUP Athletes of the Week, announced Monday by the IUP Sports Information Office.
 
It's the first career IUP weekly award for both runners, who earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) honors at the league championship meet Saturday in Edinboro.
 
Despite high winds and rain that created poor race conditions, both runners improved upon last year's results by more than 25 spots to finish in this fall's top 25 individual runners.
 
Lenze finished 14th overall out of 127 runners, finishing with a time of 27:36 at an average pace of 5:33 per mile. The second-year runner finished less than a minute behind individual champion Josh Coakley of West Chester and bettered his time by more than a minute and his finish by 34 places from the 2017 PSAC Championships.
 
Dautlick finished 21st overall with a time of 27:57 and a pace of 5:37. He improved by more than 26 spots from last year and cut his time by 51 seconds.
 
The two helped IUP men's cross country – the fourth-ranked team in the Atlantic Region – finish fifth overall at Saturday's PSAC Championships.
