IUP sophomore runner Sam Lenze and junior swimmer Nicole Smith were named IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the IUP Sports Information Office Monday afternoon.
 
This is the second IUP weekly award of the fall for Lenze and the third of Smith's career.
 
Lenze earned All-Atlantic Region honors with an eighth place finish at the NCAA Division II regional championships this past weekend in Pittsburgh.
 
He finished with a time of 35:22 on the 10K course at Schenley Park, the fifth best time of any Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) runner and just 1:21 behind regional champ Jason Weitzel (34:01) of Concord.
 
Smith gets her first weekly award after a successful weekend at Cleveland State's seventh annual Magnus Cup. Smith posted NCAA B cut times in the 100 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle, touching the wall in 51.51 and 4:57.88 respectively. She finished in eighth place in the finals races of each event.
 
Smith also competed in four relays over the weekend, helping the 400 yard medley to a ninth place finish.
