Lauren Wolosik and
Carolyn Appleby, senior guards on the No. 1-ranked IUP women's basketball team, were named IUP Athletes of the Week Monday afternoon.
The duo each had big individual highlights and helped the Crimson Hawks win a pair of road games last week as they remained undefeated on the year at 13-0. IUP defeated Mercyhurst 74-57 and Slippery Rock 90-54.
Wolosik's night came Wednesday as she hit the career 1,000-point milestone during the win in Erie. Her moment came early on, draining a pair of 3-pointers in the first two minutes to reach the mark.
She finished the game with 13 points and dished out eight assists to reach 400 for her career, and became the first player in program history to record at least 1,000 points and 400 assists.
Wolosik averaged 12.0 points and 7.0 assists during the week with a 44.4 field goal percentage, six 3-pointers, and four steals.
Appleby had a big game in Saturday's win over Slippery Rock, scoring a season-high 24 points on 7-of-16 shooting with four 3-pointers. She keyed the offensive explosion early one with three treys in the opening quarter, helping the Crimson Hawks get out to a 27-14 lead after 10 minutes.
Appleby scored a team-best 17 points at Mercyhurst, also dishing out seven assists.
She was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week for her efforts, averaging 20.5 points with six 3-poitners and 10 assists in IUP's two wins.
