Senior men's basketball player
Malik Miller and junior women's track & field athlete
Nickeela Austin were named the IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the IUP Sports Information Office Monday afternoon.
This is Miller's second IUP weekly honor of the season and the first career for Austin.
Miller averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists to help lead the sixth-ranked men's basketball program to a pair of big wins last week. He posted a pair of 20-point games, shot 45.5 percent from the floor with six 3-pointers and went 7-of-8 from the foul line.
He finished just shy of his first career double-double in IUP's 77-48 win over Slippery Rock, posting team-highs of 21 points and nine rebounds during the battle for first place in the division.
Miller followed that with 22 points on an 8-of-16 shooting performance at Gannon Saturday. He scored 12 of his 22 points as the Crimson Hawks pulled away in the second half, and finished the game with four 3-pointers and four assists.
Austin posted a pair of individual wins and PSAC qualifying marks as the Crimson Hawks competed at Baldwin Wallace's Mid-February Open Friday night.
The highlight of her night came in the long jump, where she posted a career-best mark of 5.48 meters (17-11.75) to win the event by nearly a half-meter. She also took home top honors in the triple jump with a conference qualifying leap of 11.26 meters (36-11.50).
Austin now has five individual wins in eight events entered this year, twice sweeping the long jump and triple jump (Al Hall Freedom Games, Baldwin Wallace).
