Senior golfer
Matt Cocorikis and junior outfielder
Chris Eisel were named the IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the sports information office Monday afternoon.
This is the second straight IUP weekly honor for Cocorikis, who has five this year and six for his career. This is Eisel's second career IUP weekly honor and his first since 2017.
Cocorikis won his second straight tournament, earning medalist honors at the weather shortened 56th annual Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational at the Indiana Country Club. He shot a 2-under 69 to edge out teammate
Nicholas Ward for top honors.
Cocorikis' score was the best round at the Spadafora since Max Kirsch shot a 3-under 68 in the first round of 2015.
Cocorikis has three wins and six total top-10 finishes in eight events this year. He's second in the Atlantic Region with a 73.81 scoring average.
Eisel hit a team-best .476 with seven runs batted in and an .857 slugging percentage in six games last week, helping the Crimson Hawks split three doubleheaders. Four of his team-leading 10 hits went for extra bases, including two home runs. He also had a .542 on-base percentage.
Eisel had three multi-hit games, including a season-high four base hits in a 9-7 win at Gannon. He was responsible for nearly all IUP's production in the victory, hitting a double and a home run while driving in four RBI and scoring three times.
Eisel brought his season home run total to 10 on the season, just one off the PSAC lead. He also leads the team with 32 runs batted in.
