Senior quarterback
Quinton Maxwell and sophomore goalie
Lexi Ciano were named IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the sports information office Monday afternoon.
This is the first IUP weekly honor for each student-athlete.
Maxwell helped lead the 24th-ranked Crimson Hawks to a 54-0 blowout victory at Millersville Saturday, throwing for 248 yards and accounting for four total touchdowns in just one half of action.
The transfer signal caller completed 12-of-15 passes, averaged 20.7 yards per completion, had five completions of more than 20 yards, and threw four touchdowns. Maxwell also ran for another score as he was responsible for three of IUP's four first quarter scores.
Maxwell helped IUP finish with 399 passing yards as a team, the sixth highest total in program history and the most since a 407-yard output in 2001.
Ciano posted two shutouts for the IUP field hockey program as the Crimson Hawks won a pair of games to improve to 3-0 for the first time since 2011.
The first-year starter's biggest performance came in IUP's 1-0 win at Mansfield Wednesday. Ciano saved five shots and faced 10 of Mansfield's 15 shots in the second half alone. She then kept Bloomsburg off the scoreboard Saturday with the help of her defense as the Crimson Hawks limited the Huskies to just three shots all game.
