Freshman golfer
Shaun Fedor and freshman outside hitter
Nicole Peterson were named IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the IUP sports information office Monday afternoon.
This is the first IUP weekly award for Fedor while Peterson has earned the honor twice in three weeks.
Fedor is coming off a huge weekend as he won individual medalist honors while leading the IUP men's golf team to the 2019 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship Sunday at Hershey Country Club.
Fedor finished the 54-hole tournament in a three-way tie with West Chester's Chris Warner and Shepherd's Owen Elliott with a 10-over 223. He eventually clinched the individual championship on the second playoff hole with a par. Fedor is IUP's 16th PSAC medalist since 1993 and the first freshman since Graham Hill in 2004.
Fedor was tied for third at the end of the first day with a 5-over 76. He followed that with a 1-under 70 in the second round as he moved into first place. His 70 ended up being the best round of the entire tournament.
Peterson earned her second IUP weekly award of the fall after helping the IUP women's volleyball program go 2-1 with a pair of conference road wins last week. She led the Crimson Hawks with 40 kills, 3.64 kills per set, 41.0 points and 3.73 points per set as IUP defeated Lock Haven and Bloomsburg after suffering a loss to Pitt-Johnstown.
Peterson finished with 16 kills against UPJ in a four-set loss Tuesday and had another 16 kills with a season-best .344 hitting percentage in a four-set win at Bloomsburg.
