Women's soccer standouts Madeline Smakulski and Mahogany Willis were named IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the IUP sports information office Monday morning.
 
These mark the second IUP weekly honors of the season for both Smakulski and Willis, as well as the fourth of their respective careers.
 
The duo helped the Crimson Hawks to a pair of wins last week as they moved into sole possession of third place in the PSAC West standings. IUP defeated Gannon 2-0 on the road Wednesday and took down division-leading Slippery Rock 2-1 Saturday at home.
 
The junior goalkeeper Smakulski saved 18 shots and gave up just one goal on the week, lowering her goals against average on the year to 1.28 and raising her save percentage to .861. Slippery Rock entered the game as the division's leading scoring team with 2.8 goals per game.
 
Willis scored both goals in IUP's upset win over The Rock to bring her season total to a conference-leading 14. The sophomore forward picked up loose balls in her defensive half and raced for breakaway scores on both goals. They were her only two shots on net as the SRU defense worked to limit IUP's top scorer.
