Senior defensive end Dondrea Tillman and senior swimmer Gabrielle Gironda were named IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the sports information office Monday night.
These are the first career IUP weekly honors for both Tillman and Gironda.
Tillman helped the 19th-ranked IUP football team to a 50-23 win at Seton Hill Saturday, posting three tackles-for-loss and a pair of sacks. It was the first multi-sack game of the season for Tillman, who moved into a tie for fifth place at IUP with 28.0 career sacks.
Tillman made IUP’s first big defensive play of the game with a safety, tackling Seton Hill’s running back in the end zone in the first quarter.
Gironda won a pair of events as she helped the IUP women’s swimming team to a 133-70 victory over Saint Vincent Saturday at the Pidgeon Natatorium. She was the only women’s swimmer to win multiple events, taking home top honors in the 100 and 200 freestyle.
She also hit Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times in both events with times of 55.10 and 2:00.42, respectively.
