Basketball players
Natalie Myers and
Dave Morris were named the IUP Athletes of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the IUP Sports Information Office.
This is Myers' second IUP weekly honor of the season and first for Morris.
Myers had her best game as a collegian, posting a career-high 26 points to go along with 11 rebounds in a 65-54 win for the 16th-ranked IUP women's basketball team at Salem last Wednesday.
The senior guard hit 10-of-16 from the field, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range in 30 minutes of work. The 10 made field goals and six treys were also career-bests, while it was her second double-double of the season and fifth of her career.
The six 3-pointers is tied for the fifth most in IUP single game history and the most since
Megan Smith drilled six on three occasions during the 2017-18 season.
Myers leads the Crimson Hawks with 14.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, and is among the national leaders with a 60.3 field goal percentage, 60.5 3-point field goal percentage, and 23 made treys.
Morris led the way in the best offensive performance by the sixth-ranked IUP men's basketball team this season in its 91-70 victory over Felician Saturday. Morris posted a career-high 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting as IUP connected on 50.0 percent of its shots for the fourth straight outing.
Morris' six field goals made were a career-high, as were his three 3-pointers and four steals defensively.
In his first season with the Crimson Hawks, the sophomore guard is averaging 10.0 points with a 48.7 field goal percentage and has 19 assists and 11 steals in six games.
