IUP basketball players
Armoni Foster and
Courtney Alexander were named IUP Athletes of the Week, announced Monday morning by the IUP sports information office.
The two led the IUP men's and women's basketball programs to perfect weeks with a combined four road wins. This is Foster's third IUP weekly honor of the season and the second for Alexander.
Foster averaged 23.5 points and 6.0 rebounds and shot 60.0 percent from the field as the ninth-ranked men's team defeated Slippery Rock and Gannon. He did most of his damage in the second half of close games, scoring 14 points in the last 20 minutes against The Rock and 17 against the Golden Knights.
The redshirt sophomore guard took over in Erie as IUP clung to a 47-46 lead against Gannon. He scored on three straight possessions, scoring eight points on a 3-pointer, jumper, and a layup-and-one, before adding another trey and assisting on a bucket as the Crimson Hawks took a 20-point lead with 6:30 to play.
Alexander led the women's team in scoring for the week at 15.5 points per game as she provided a huge lift off the bench in wins at SRU and Gannon. She was lights out from deep, connecting on 9-of-17 from 3-point range for the week.
Alexander drilled five 3-pointers in 21 minutes at Slippery Rock to post 15 points, adding four rebounds and a pair of assists. The redshirt junior guard played a more vital role in Erie in a battle of the top two teams in the PSAC West, scoring 16 points – including three 3-pointers in the second half – to help lead the Crimson Hawks to their 12th straight win.
