Marty Higgins

Marty Higgins will begin his first season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with the Crimson Hawks in 2015.

Higgins comes to IUP from Upper Iowa University out of the Division II Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) where he spent the last two seasons.

During his time at Upper Iowa, the offense averaged more than 34 points per contest. The unit racked up over 304 passing yards per game, a mark that led the NSIC in 2014.

Under Higgins’ direction, the Peacocks scored 40 or more points on four different occasions, including 58 against Wayne State in November.

During his two years, Higgins helped lead Upper Iowa to the program’s first back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1964.

Higgins joined Upper Iowa after coaching the quarterbacks at Valley City State University (N.D.) in 2012.

In 2010, at Northern Michigan University in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), he worked with and developed receivers in a multiple spread set offense.

Higgins resigned from his position as the wide receivers coach at Western Michigan University in June of 1990 shortly after the birth of his first child, and went into private business in Watertown, S.D. where he was the Vice President of Gregory’s Inc. until selling the business in May of 2010.

Higgins was the head football coach at the SR-R High School in Sioux Rapids, Iowa from 1982-85. There he guided the football program to its first winning season in seven years.

Marty and his wife, Val, have two children, Courtney and Sean.
