Tate Gregory enters his fourth season on the IUP coaching staff in 2021 serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Gregory has coordinated one of the top offenses in the nation during his three years in Indiana, with the Crimson Hawks averaging 38 points and 441 total yards per game since 2017.Â
Two different quarterbacks have put together some of the best seasons in program history - Lenny Williams in 2017 and Quinton Maxwell in 2019.
Williams earned All-American honors as he broke the school record with 3,195 total yards and tossed 31 touchdowns during IUP's hugely successful 2017 season. His 65.4 completion percentage that year was the second-best in program history while he earned MVP honors of both the PSAC Championship Game and the Coal Bowl, IUP's rivalry game with Cal U. He was also among 34 nominees for the Harlon Hill Trophy, given annually to the top player in Division II.Â
Maxwell earned all-region status during his only season with the Crimson Hawks in 2019, setting IUP records with 3,129 passing yards and 38 total touchdowns. He had eight games throwing three or more touchdown passes, and put together two of the most efficient games in program history. His 172.18 pass efficiency rating in 2019 is the fourth best in program history.
Gregory and Maxwell helped IUP to a record-breaking campaign in 2019. The Crimson Hawks set school records for passing yards (3,621), passing yards per game (301.8), and passing touchdowns (41), while their total yards per game (476.7) was the second-highest mark in the program's history.

Gregory joined that IUP staff before 2017Â following four seasons as the offensive coordinator at University of Charleston in West Virginia. Under Gregory the Golden Eagles became one of the highest scoring teams in the Mountain East Conference (MEC).
In 2015, UC set program records with 41.1 points and 465.1 total yards per game, 2,685 passing yards, 23 passing touchdowns, and 64 total touchdowns. The Golden Eagles scored 56 points four times and eclipsed 30 points nine times. Quarterback Jeremy Johnson totaled 2,747 yards and 25 touchdowns, while throwing just four interceptions, and was a nominee for the Harlon Hill award.
Â
UC made its first ever appearance in the NCAA playoffs in 2015, falling to IUP 47-21 in the opening round. Its 10 wins were the most in program history, while its 9-1 MEC record was the best ever for a UC team.
Â
Gregory was an assistant under UC head coach Pat Kirkland for six seasons, helping the Golden Eagles to a 76-46 overall record during that time. He joined the staff in 2006 after his graduation from Ohio University, and coached the running backs for three seasons (2006-08), all of which UC finished in the top two of the now-defunct West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) in rushing yards. He transitioned to wide receivers in 2009, coaching record-setting wideout Andre Higgins for two seasons, before making his move to offensive coordinator prior to the 2013 season.
Gregory joined the UC Staff in 2006 immediately after graduating from Ohio University with a degree in Sports Management.
