The IUP lacrosse team suffered a great loss last week when recruit Shannon Quail was tragically killed in an automobile accident. Quail was a senior at Seneca Valley High School and had already decided to become a Crimson Hawk beginning in the fall of 2009.
Shannon was an all-conference and All-WPIAL selection during her four-year high school lacrosse career and also played for the Intrepid Girls Lacrosse Club for two years.
Her love of sports helped turn her into a fierce athlete "who had a wicked shot" and "all our opponents knew exactly who she was," said Dina Hughes, Seneca Valley's varsity lacrosse coach.
"She was a role model for a lot of her younger teammates, always encouraging and complimenting them," Hughes said. "She brought everyone together. She was one of the nicest, caring individuals I've known. If I ever have a daughter, I want her to be just like Shannon."
IUP head coach Mindy Richmond and the entire IUP lacrosse team attended Shannon's funeral.
