IUP stormed back from deficits in both the second and third games to post a 3-1 victory over Gannon in a PSAC match Friday at Memorial Field House to snap a five-match skid. The Crimson Hawks won by scores of 25-22, 20-25, 25-15, 26-24.
The Crimson Hawks evened their conference record at 4-4 and are 12-5 overall. The Golden Knights dropped to 9-4 and 4-2 in the PSAC.
Danielle Ostendorf (Rockford, IL/Boylan Catholic) and
Jessica Bodkin (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) both had double figures in kills for IUP with 18 and 11, respectively, with Ostendorf hitting .424 for the match while adding two blocks.
Emily Pany (Coplay, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) had 18 digs and three aces, and
Kadie Koeneman (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) contributed six kills and four aces.
Sarah Alman (Indiana/Indiana) saw the bulk of the playing time at setter and handed out 34 assists, made 12 digs and hd a pair of blocks.
The teams split the first two games and Gannon built a 12-9 lead in the third game. The Crimson Hawks responded by scoring 16 of the final 19 points to take control of the match. In the fourth game, IUP trailed 19-16 but tied it at 24 and then finished off the win on consecutive kills by Ostendorf.
The Crimson Hawks are back in action next weekend with three PSAC crossover matches at Clarion beginning Friday vs. Kutztown. The following day IUP takes on West Chester and Cheyney.
