It took the Crimson Hawks five sets but behind 22 digs from
Emily Pany (Coplay, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) they were able to pull out a 3-2 victory over visiting University of Charleston Tuesday evening at Memorial Field House.
IUP (16-5) started out strong taking the first game 25-22 and the second game 25-23, but the Golden Eagles(10-8) evened the match taking the next two games by scores of 25-19 and 25-15. The Crimson Hawks came out and dominated the fifth game 15-7 to get the win.
“There was a real sense of urgency in the last set. We knew we had to come out fired up. We focused on better passing and better serving,” said Pany.
Morgan Cerveny (Richfield, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) paced the Crimson Hawk attack with 13 kills.
Danielle Ostendorf (Rockford, IL/Boylan Catholic) chipped in 11 kills along with six blocks, two of which were in the fifth set.
Chelsey Kreinbrook (Dawson, Pa./Geibel Catholic) set the table for the IUP offense with 46 set assists.
The Crimson Hawks jump back into PSAC West action on Friday when the travel to Edinboro.
