IUP men's assistant basketball coach
Chris Fite has been selected for induction into the Wendy's College Classic Hall of Fame as part of the 45th annual Division III tournament later this month in upstate New York.
Fite was a two-time Wendy's College Classic MVP while starring at the University of Rochester. He earned top honors during the 1989-90 and 1991-92 seasons when he led the Yellowjackets to the championship of the event and also gained a spot on the All-Classic team in 1990-91 when Rochester was the runner-up.
Fite, in his fifth season as
Joe Lombardi's top assistant with the Crimson Hawks, averaged 18.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.1 blocked shots per game to help Rochester win eight of nine games in the Classic during his career. In 2006 he was voted onto the 25-player 40th Anniversary Team.
Fite holds school records for career points (2,066) and blocked shots (179) and ranks second in rebounds (1,023) and eighth in assists (371). He was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-America team as a junior and senior and was selected the Most Outstanding Player of the 1990 Final Four when he led Rochester to the national championship.
Fite was also named to the Final Four all-tournament team in 1992 when the Yellowjackets again reached the championship game. He was inducted into the University of Rochester Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005.
