Darryl Webb Becomes First IUP Men's Basketball All-American in Eight Years with Selection to NABC Team

March 23, 2010

Darryl Webb has added to his list of postseason honors with his selection to the 16-man State Farm Coaches' Division II All-America team, sponsored and voted on by the members of the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Webb, a junior forward, is the first IUP men's basketball player named to an All-America team since Dennis Mims in 2002. Previously Webb was named to the All-PSAC West and Daktronics all-region first teams and was the MVP of the NCAA Atlantic Region tournament, which the Crimson Hawks won to advance to the Elite Eight this week in Springfield, Mass.

The Long Reach High School graduate in Elkridge, Md., ranks second in the PSAC and 15th in the nation with an average of 10.1 rebounds per game and is 12th in the conference in scoring (15.3), ninth in field goal percentage (54.1) and eighth in steals (1.8).

He has 15 double-doubles on the year and had two in the Atlantic Region tournament, including 27 points to tie his career scoring high to go along with 12 rebounds in the championship game win over West Liberty. Webb also had 27 points and a season-high 17 rebounds earlier this season vs. Cheyney and had 11 points and 14 rebounds in the opening round of the region tournament vs. Fairmont State.

Webb is climbing the IUP career chart in several categories and already holds the school record with 112 blocked shots. He also ranks 10th in scoring with 1,351 points, 11th in field goals made with 507, eighth in free throws made with 265, third in rebounds with 848, tied for fourth in rebounding average (9.3) and tied for 10th in steals (107).

His 334 rebounds are the third highest single season mark in school history, and he needs only 34 more to pass Garry Lupek for the top spot in the IUP career record book with 882. Webb enters the Elite Eight just 19 points away from jumping all the way up to sixth in career scoring.

Webb is a three-time All-PSAC West selection and has been on the first team the past two seasons. In 2008 he was chosen the PSAC West Freshman of the Year.
