IUP continued its unbeaten streak to open the 2010 season by defeating Shippensburg and East Stroudsburg in a pair of PSAC crossover matches Friday. The Crimson Hawks are 10-0 overall and the wins came in the first two conference matches of the season.
The Crimson Hawks defeated the Lady Raiders in a hard fought four-set match in the afternoon, prevailing by scores of 25-22, 25-21, 24-26, 26-24. IUP came back in the evening to easily down the host Warriors by a count of 25-13, 25-16, 25-20.
Emily Pany (Coplay, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic), IUP's all-time leader in digs and one of the top players in the nation in that category, continued her solid play as the anchor of the Crimson Hawk defense while also helping the team transition for points.
Danielle Ostendorf (Rockford, IL/Boylan Catholic) was strong around the net both offensively and in the blocking game.
"We played solid today and our confidence is very high," head coach Zach Shaver said. "That confidence is really coming into play for us when he hit rough stretches during matches."
IUP plays two more crossover matches Saturday at Lock Haven, facing Millersville at 12:30 and the host Bald Eagles at 5:30.
