Melissa Kornock (Hatfield/North Penn) scored multiple goals for the first time in her career to help IUP erase an early deficit and defeat visiting Wheeling Jesuit 5-1 in non-conference action Monday afternoon.
Wheeling Jesuit (1-6) opened the scoring when Kara Houston beat IUP (3-2-1) goalie
Kelly Brennan (Middletown/Middletown) at 5:10 to give on a pass from Ashley McGinnis to give the Cardinals lead.
Kornock scored the equalizer at 10:31 on a pass from
Heather Robbins (Frederica, DE/Polytech). Kornock scored her second just two minutes later. After a botched clear, Kornock had a breakaway and beat the keeper for what turned out to be the game winner.
Freshman
Carter Sheely (Carlisle/Cumberland Valley) tallied her first career goal for IUP at 32:10 to give the Crimson Hawks a 3-1 halftime lead.
Robbins picked up her seventh goal of the season early in the second half on assisted by
Michelle Grozinsky (Waldorf, MD/North Point).
Tori Pikur (Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) rounded out the scoring at 51:41 with an unassisted goal. Brennan got the win making five saves before being relieved by
Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) who made three saves.
IUP improves to 3-2-1 and continue PSAC play Wednesday at Mansfield.
