The Crimson Hawks used a strong defensive effort in the first half and five players scoring in double figures to upend Edinboro 69-56 in PSAC West action Wednesday night at McComb Fieldhouse.
Lacey Claar (Imler, Pa./Claysburg-Kimmel) led the charge for IUP with 19 points, including 10 of 11 from the free throw line, to go with four assists and three boards.
Eryn Withers (Burtonsville, Md./Springbrook) added 14 points and four boards.
Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) chipped in with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Katelyn Marshall (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) also reached double figures with 13 points and three rebounds.
Brianna Johnson (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) scored 10 points and added seven boards and three steals.
Renee Brown gave the Fighting Scots (14-3, 4-1 PSAC West) their only lead of the game on a free throw after an IUP technical foul before the game started.
The Crimson Hawks (12-5, 4-1) responded with a 35-6 run to build IUP's largest lead of the game 35-7 with 6:29 remaining in the first half.
Edinboro was able to trim the lead to 62-52 with 2:12 remaining in the game, but the Crimson Hawks went on a 7-2 run to hold off the Fighting Scots.
The win puts IUP in a four-way tie for first place in the PSAC West with Edinboro, California and Mercyhurst.
The Crimson Hawks look to stay atop the PSAC West when they travel to Mercyhurst Saturday in the second game of a four game road trip.
