Darryl Webb and Ashton Smith Post Double-Doubles in Crimson Hawk Win

Darryl Webb (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) and Ashton Smith (Scarborough, ON/West Hill Collegiate) posted double-doubles as the No. 20 Crimson Hawks defeated East Stroudsburg 78-72 in PSAC crossover action Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field House.

Webb scored a team-high 22 points and now has 1,595 in his career just 26 behind Eddie Peterson for second on the all-time list. Webb's 17 rebounds are a season-high and two off his career high which came two seasons ago against Shippensburg and moved him to within two of becoming the first player in school history with 1,000.

Smith posted a season-high 20 points and a career-high 11 boards for his first career double-double. Kevin Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Academy Park) added 14 points, one shy of his career high, and four assists.

With one minute remaining the IUP led by just  72-69 but shot a perfect 6 of 6 from the charity stripe, including 4 of 4 from Smith,  the rest of the way to seal the win.

The Crimson Hawks led by 10, 70-60, with 3:54 on the clock but East Stroudsburg went on a 9-2 run, including 5 of 6 from the line, to close the gap.

With a slim 21-16 lead with 7:01 left in the first half IUP went on a 15-0 run to build its largest lead of the game 36-16. Stewart picked up seven points in the run that ended when Micah Covert hit a 3-pointer for the Warriors at the 3:29 mark.

East Stroudsburg closed the first half on a 7-2 run to cut the IUP lead to 12, 40-28 at the half.

The Warriors were able to reduce the lead to 62-60 with 6:01 left in the second half, but the Crimson Hawks answered with an 8-0 run including six points by Webb.

IUP ran its record to 9-2 in crossover action over the past three years and extended their winning streak at Memorial Field House to 27 games.  The Crimson Hawks have won 37 of their past 39 home games dating back to the 2008-09 season.

The Crimson Hawks host Kutztown in the second half of the crossover weekend a rematch of last years PSAC championship game Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Memorial Field House.
