INDIANA, PA - The Crimson Hawks were unable to put the ball in the net, as Slippery Rock's offense and defense proved to be too rock solid for IUP to defeat, as they fell to the Rock 2-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's soccer matchup on Tuesday afternoon.
The Rock (9-3-2, 7-2-2) primarily dominated in the first period of play taking seven shots compared to IUP's three.
Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon), who played well throughout the 90 minutes, held Slippery Rock to only three shots on goal during the second period.
Slippery Rock's Kara Mullins scored first for the Rock off a corner kick from Emer Flatley. Later, in the 27th minute Shelby Ward scored again on a breakaway goal to make the score 2-0.
In the second half,
Melissa Kornock (Hatfield/North Penn) tried to set
Kelsey Fisher (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) up in the 52nd minute, however, Fisher's ball went wide.
Carter Sheely (Carlisle/Cumberland Valley) tried again for the Hawks a little more than a minute later with a nice
header shot, however that was saved by the goalie.
The loss brings IUP back to 8-3-2 overall, 6-3-2 in the PSAC. IUP plays again on Thursday, at Wheeling Jesuit at 4:00 p.m.
