ERIE, PA – Paige Virgara (Pittsburgh/Keystone Oaks) had the solo goal for IUP as the Crimson Hawks defeated Mercyhurst 1-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's soccer match-up on Tuesday afternoon at Mercyhurst.

The Hawks (10-3-2, 8-3-2) wasted no time in trying to get on the board as Carter Sheely (Carlisle/Cumberland Valley) had a high shot on goal within the first 45 seconds of play. It was then that Virgara scored in the 15th minute, a shot coming from 35 yards outs over the goalie's head, to put the Hawks on the board.

IUP held the advantage for the majority of the first half, but the Lakers were able to hold a territorial advantage in the second as the Hawks were on the defensive. However, the Lakers were unable to capitalize on the advantage and the Hawks were able to keep the ball in the Lakers territory the last two minutes.

The Lakers were able to keep up with the Hawks in shooting for most of the game; however IUP had a slight advantage, outshooting the Lakers 20-18.

The Hawks don't play again until Saturday at the South Campus Field against Bloomsburg.
