Brandon Hopkins (Marion, VA/Marion) and
Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) broke pool records in the 400 IM while
Steve Long (Greensburg/Hempfield) put up a new mark in the 100 fly as the IUP men's and women's swim teams performed well in their season-opening meet at Gannon on Saturday. The women were victorious 115-103 while the men fell 118-87.
Both men's and women's 200 medley relay teams performed well to open the meet, with both “A” teams taking home victories.
Hopkins time of 4:18.85 in the 400 IM bested the second place time of 4:26.83, setting the record, while Mitidieri also blew through the competition in her 400, finishing :12 seconds ahead of the number two swimmer with a time of 4:39.90.
Long's record time in the 100 fly was a 50.50, nearly three seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Other winners on the women's side were
Ally Long (Frederick, MD/Frederick) with a 10:49.40 in the in the 1000 free;
Ashley McAteer (Irwin/Penn-Trafford) with a 24.35 in the 50 free;
Jackie Hynson (King George, VA/King George) with a 59.89 in the 100 fly and a 1:00.67 in the 100 back; and
Lauren Alshouse (Lancaster/Conestoga Valley) with a 5:21.10 in the 500 free.
David Donovan (Edinboro/General McLane) finished second in the 1000 free for the men, going for a time of 10:36.00, while
Anthony Termin (Enola/Cumberland Valley) (200 free),
Doug McWhorter (Charlottesville, VA/Broadneck) (50 free), and Hopkins (500 free) all earned second place finishes for the men.
The Crimson Hawks are back in the pool tomorrow when both teams face Edinboro on Saturday.
