IUP Defeats Bloomsburg 3-1 on Senior Day

INDIANA, PA - Melissa Kornock (Hatfield/North Penn) bookended the Crimson Hawks win over Bloomsburg with two goals as IUP defeated the Huskies 3-1 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match-up on Saturday afternoon at the South Campus Field.

Prior to the kick-off the Crimson Hawks honored six seniors on Senior Day: Kelly Brennan (Middletown/Middletown), Chrissy Enders (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin), Viann Heder (Vandergrift/Kiski Area), Kornock, Heather Robbins (Frederica, DE/Polytech), and Paige Virgara (Pittsburgh/Keystone Oaks).

The Huskies took the lead early with a goal from Natalie Adams at the six minute mark, and they held that lead for the entire first half against . The Hawks though out-shot Bloom 8-3 in the first, and shut them out completely in the second half 10-0.

Early in the second, Lindsay Lobevero (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) found Kornock at the 47:22 minute mark, tying the score at one-apiece. Heather Robbins (Frederica, DE/Polytech) then scored again for the Hawks with an assist from Virgara to give IUP the lead 2-1.

Kornock then put the nail in the coffin for the Huskies when she put her second ball in the top right corner to give the Hawks a 3-1 advantage. Kornock and Robbins would continue to try to put the ball in the net but were unable to capitalize further for IUP.

Brennan played 90 minutes of solid goalkeeping for the Hawks, only allowing the one Huskies goal, showcasing how effective IUP's defense was in the second half.

The Hawks final regular season home game is next Thursday against Alderson-Broaddus at 3:00 p.m. at the South Campus Field as they prepare for the PSAC tournament.
