Volleyball Gets Second Win of the Weekend Against Mercyhurst

INDIANA, PA – Morgan Cerveny (Richfield, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) tied her season-high with 14 kills as IUP had its second straight upset victory on Saturday night with a 3-1 win over Mercyhurst  in a Pennsylvania State Athletic (PSAC) match-up at the Kovalchick Complex.

The Lakers took a 6-2 lead early on in the first set, the Hawks would go on a five point run. Eventually, taking control of the first set and winning 25-21.

Mercyhurst again took the lead in the second set, going up 9-4, before IUP went on several two-and-three-point runs to tie the set at 15-15. Both teams continued to rally point-for-point, until IUP won the last three points of the set, finishing off the Lakers 31-29.

The Hawks had the lead going into the third, until the Lakers went on a five-point run and held onto that lead to win the third set 25-19, forcing a fourth set.

The Lakers had a two-point advantage early in the fourth set; however the Hawks would rally and score seven continuous points to give them the lead, and ultimately the win 25-15.

Carissa Miara (Pittsburgh/West Allegheny) led the Hawks with 32 assists and Emily Vaughn (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) had 27 defensive digs on the night.

The Crimson Hawks (11-20, 5-12) return to the court Friday November 4 at 7:00 p.m. against Clarion at the Kovalchick Complex.
