MILLERSVILLE, PA –
Heather Robbins (Frederica, DE/Polytech) scored two goals for the fifth time this year and assisted on IUP's third goal as the Crimson Hawks easily handled Millersville 3-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's soccer matchup on Wednesday afternoon.
It was the Crimson Hawks second shutout in three contests, as they improved to 8-1-2 overall, 6-1-2 in the competitive PSAC.
IUP dominated the offensive end the entire match, getting off 12 shots in the first half compared to just five for Millersville. Robbins, taking the sixth shot of the first half, got IUP on board in the 19th minute when
Tonya Fabian (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) dropped it to her on a break as the Marauders goalie came out of the box to stop her.
It wouldn't be long until Robbins added her second one, getting a pass from
Melissa Kornock (Hatfield/North Penn) and beating the goalie one-on-one for her team-leading 13th goal of the season.
Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon), who started in the net for IUP and was rarely tested, made two saves in the 90 minutes, getting one in each half.
It was more of the same in the second half, with IUP outshooting Millersville 11-4. It took 20 minutes for IUP to get its third goal, with Robbins passing to
Carter Sheely (Carlisle/Cumberland Valley), who chipped it over the goalie for her first goal of the season.
The Crimson Hawks get back to it on Saturday, traveling across the state to West Chester to take on the Golden Rams at 12:00 p.m.
