WEST CHESTER, PA – The Crimson Hawks couldn't generate much offensive production, as West Chester's defense proved too strong as IUP fell to the Golden Rams 2-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's soccer matchup on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Rams (8-2-3, 5-2-3) dominated the ball offensively in the opening half getting off nine shots compared to just one for IUP. Kelly Brennan (Middletown/Middletown), who got the start in goal for the Crimson Hawks, played strong, coming up with three saves in the game's first 22 minutes.

Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon), who entered for Brennan, also played well throughout the rest of the first half. Saving a shot by West Chester's Maddie Mitchell, the ball was deflected back to Mitchell, who got her own rebound and knocked it past Hricik for the game's first goal in the 39th minute.

West Chester extended its lead early in the second half, when Kim Shoup found Jen Hutchinson on a corner, who headed it in to put the Rams up 2-0 in the 47th minute.

The Crimson Hawks created more opportunities for themselves in the second half, getting off six shots, however none could get past the West Chester goalie.

The loss brings the Crimson Hawks back to 8-2-2 overall, 6-2-2 in the PSAC. IUP returns to the field next Tuesday, hosting Slippery Rock on South Campus Field at 4:00 p.m.
