IUP Drops Quarterfinals Matchup with Edinboro on Tuesday

EDINBORO, PA – Despite a strong second half in goal by Kelly Brennan (Middletown/Middletown), the IUP women's soccer team lost to Edinboro 2-0 Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament.

Edinboro wasted no time in putting the ball in the net; Becca Costello found the back of the net during the 12th minute off a pass from Karisa Fernandez, giving the Fighting Scots a 1-0 lead. The Scots would make it 2-0 a little before the half, with a goal by Samantha Kasier in the 32nd minute.

The Hawks took five shots in the second half, with three of those being on goal but was unable to get past goalie Kate Stukbauer. Tonya Fabian (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) had the final shot for the Hawks, but Stukbauer made the save, giving the Fighting Scots the win and advance them to the semifinals.

The Crimson Hawks finished the season 11-4-2 and 9-3-2 in the PSAC West, earning a trip to the postseason for the eighth straight year. Senior Heather Robbins (Frederica, DE/Polytech) led the team in scoring with 35 points, scoring 15 goals on the year. Fellow senior Melissa Kornock (Hatfield/North Penn) finished with 34 points, scoring 13 goals and adding seven assists. Brennan and Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) spilt time in goal racking up seven wins apiece and combining for four shutouts.
