IUP Swim Teams Sweep Wheeling Jesuit on Friday

INDIANA, PA - IUP completed a sweep of Wheeling Jesuit, getting wins in 18 of the 28 total events, as the Crimson Hawks men's and women's swim teams notched wins of 156-120 and 159-127, respectively, at the John A. Pidgeon Natatorium on Friday night.

Multiple men chalked up at least two wins apiece in individual events, including Steve Long (Greensburg/Hempfield)'s three victories in the 100 and 200 fly and the 200 free. Long's time of 50.82 in the 100 fly was an NCAA "B" cut time and was nearly a full five seconds ahead of second place finisher Bobby Sciscento (Lancaster/Manheim Township) and his 55.12.

Walter Smith (Annandale, VA/Annandale) picked up a pair of wins, finishing with a time of 21.98 in the 50 free and 48.92 in the 100 free.

Doug McWhorter (Charlottesville, VA/Broadneck) won the 100 back with a time of 56.41 and was second in the 50 free while Brandon Hopkins (Marion, VA/Marion) won the 1000 free in 10:00.84 and came in second in the 500 free.

Jackie Hynson (King George, VA/King George) and Ashley McAteer (Irwin/Penn-Trafford) each won a pair of events for the women in their victory. McAteer got her first win in the 50 free with a time of 25.04, following that up with a time of 54.70 and a win in the 100 free.

Hynson's first win came in the 200 fly, finishing with a time of 2:10.38 and was later victorious in the 200 back, coming in with a time of 2:10.54. 

Both Crimson Hawks swim teams return to the pool next weekend when IUP hosts the three day Pidgeon Invitational November 17-19.
