Box Score

KUTZTOWN, PA – Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) scored 12 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds, her first double-double of the season, leading undefeated IUP to a 66-47 win over Kutztown on the second day of its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover weekend on Sunday at the Keystone Arena. The 8-0 start for the Crimson Hawks is their best since they started 9-0 in 2007-08 season, a year in which they won the PSAC title and advanced to the NCAA tournament.

Pastorek and the Crimson Hawks (8-0, 6-0) began strong, as the junior forward scored six of the team's first seven points as IUP jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead. After Kutztown got on the board at the 15:54 mark, IUP extended its lead to nine on a three-pointer by Talen Watson (Odenton, MD/Arundel) to make the score 11-2 23 seconds later.

The Golden Bears (3-8, 2-4) got their deficit back to seven with a layup a minute later before a score by Lisa Burton (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Penn Hills) jump started a 15-1 IUP run, breaking open the game to a 26-5 Crimson Hawks lead with 7:00 left on the clock. Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) scored six during the run, including knocking down a pair of free throws, and Jen Rasko (Windber/Windber) hit a three-pointer.

IUP would lead by as many as 23 in the first half after Watson knocked down another three, and Arika Ullman (Baltimore, MD/Seton Keough) hit a jumper as time expired at the end of the half, as the Crimson Hawks went into the break with a 34-16 lead.

The Crimson Hawks got their lead back up to 22 at 40-18 after a layup by Pastorek at the 16:54 mark, but Kutztown came right back with a three by Andrea Sisson that started an 18-3 Golden Bears run over the next 6:35, cutting their deficit to seven with 10:19 left to play. IUP stopped the Golden Bears run in a big way, scoring 12 straight points, with Burton and Stoner each scoring four and Leslie Stapleton (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) knocking down a three to put the Crimson Hawks up 55-36 with 6:00 minutes remaining.

Kutztown could only get as close as 16 points the rest of the way, as IUP held a consistent lead over the final minutes in the 19-point victory.

IUP outshot the Golden Bears 40.7 percent to 26.9 percent as the Crimson Hawks forced 23 turnovers. Sisson led Kutztown with 12 points, adding three assists and three steals, and went 3-of-5 from three-point range.

Pastorek got all of her points from the field, going 6-of-15. 14 of 17 boards were on the defensive end, adding four assists and a steal in 32 minutes on the court. Stoner scored 11 points in just 20 minutes, playing much of the game in foul trouble. She went 3-of-4 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds. Watson also scored 11 points and went 3-of-4 from the floor, including 2-of-3 from three-point range, dishing out five assists.

The Crimson Hawks will return home, hosting the Seventh Annual Susan G. Komen “Shoot for the Cure” Classic December 18 and 19. IUP will play Seton Hill on Sunday and Bowie State on Monday afternoon. PSAC West rival Cal will also visit the Kovalchick Complex next weekend.
