Box Score

INDIANA, PA – The IUP women's basketball program is off to its best start since the 1999-2000 season as the Crimson Hawks went to 10-0 behind a double-double by Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) with an 82-39 win over Bowie State in the final game of the Seventh Annual Susan G. Komen “Shoot for the Cure” Classic at the Kovalchick Complex.

Stoner scored 18 points and finished with a season-high 10 rebounds, as she got off to yet another hot start in the first half on Monday. The game was tight in the onset, as Stoner scored 10 of IUP's first 14 points as the Crimson Hawks held a 14-10 advantage less than 10 minutes into the contest.

The layup by Stoner at the 10:24 mark was the first two of eight straight points for IUP as the Crimson Hawks took a 20-10 lead at the 9:00 mark. The Bulldogs cut into their deficit with a pair of layups followed by a three-pointer by Myla Somerville, climbing back to within five at 22-17 less than two minutes later.

That would be the closest that Bowie State would get, as the Crimson Hawks responded with 10 straight points, getting layups by Stoner, Lisa Burton (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Penn Hills) and Jen Rasko (Windber/Windber), taking a 32-17 lead with 4:57 remaining. IUP stretched their first half lead to 16, getting a rebound and put back by Stoner as time expired to take a 40-24 lead into the break.

Foul shots by Talen Watson (Odenton, MD/Arundel) at the beginning of the second half gave IUP an 18-point lead, but Bowie State knocked it down to 15 several times over the next few minutes, cutting the Crimson Hawks lead to 47-32 with 16:49 left after a layup by Kim Jones.

IUP came back the very next possession as Arika Ullman (Baltimore, MD/Seton Keough) knocked down a trey, jump starting a 20-0 Crimson Hawks run that included another three's by Watson and Ullman, two of six players to score on the run. That put the game out of reach for Bowie State, as IUP extended its lead to 70-32 with 7:13 remaining. The Crimson Hawks would go on to outscore the Bulldogs 12-7 the rest of the way for the 43-point win.

Jones led Bowie State with 15 points and eight rebounds, collecting two steals and a block, as she was the only member of Bowie State to reach double-figures. The Crimson Hawks held Bowie State to just a 23.3 shooting percentage, making 14-of-60 from the field.

Stoner finished 6-of-15 from the field and 6-of-7 from the line with seven offensive boards and two assists in just 21 minutes on the court. Ullman added 10 points off the bench, going 4-of-6 from the field, including 2-of-3 from behind the three-point line. All 11 players who saw action for the Crimson Hawks scored, including Melanie Todd (Springfield, VA/West Springfield), who had nine, and Burton, who had eight. Todd also finished with eight rebounds.

The undefeated Crimson Hawks are off until 2012 when they host West Chester and Millersville in the final PSAC crossover matchup of the season on January 6 and 7 at the Kovalchick Complex.
