Lacey Claar (Imler, Pa./Claysburg-Kimmel)'s desperation heave at the buzzer came up just short as IUP fell to Clarion 63-60 at Tippin Gymnasium Saturday night.

Down 60-58 Claar drew a foul with :29 to play and made both free throws to tie the game. Clarion grabbed two offensive rebounds at the other end before Lauren Savulchak made a pair of free throws to make the score 62-60.

Eryn Withers (Burtonsville, Md./Springbrook) had a potential go-ahead 3-pointer rim out and Mackenzie Clark made the back end of two free throws to set the final.

After trailing 35-28 at the half the Crimson Hawks (16-7, 8-3 PSAC West) came out of the locker room on a 10-0 run to take their first lead since a 15-14 advantage with 12:33 to play in the first half.

Early in the first half IUP held an 11-6 advantage but the Golden Eagles (7-17, 4-8) answered with a 24-10 run that was capped by an Emma Fickel 3-pointer at the 6:33 mark in the first half.

With 3:10 to play in the game the Crimson Hawks trailed 57-53, but they battled back with a 7-3 spurt that tied the game at 60.

Katelyn Marshall (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) led the IUP offense with 14 points. Lacey Claar (Imler, Pa./Claysburg-Kimmel) chipped in 13 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists.

Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) turned in her second straight double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds six of those at the offensive end.

Fickel paced the Golden Eagles with 18 points on six 3-pointers. Courtney Healy added 11 points and Clark picked up a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The loss snapped an 11-game win streak for the Crimson Hawks against Clarion and is the first loss to the Golden Eagles since a 77-73 loss at the end of the 2004-05 season.

The Crimson Hawks look to bounce back when they visit Lock Haven on Monday for a makeup date with the Bald Eagles.
