Julian Sanders Leads Crimson Hawks as they Cruise Past Lock Haven

After a lengthy delay the Crimson Hawks didn't take long to get rolling as they rolled past Lock Haven 79-35 Wednesday night at Thomas Fieldhouse.

Julian Sanders (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) scored 21 points on 7 of 12 shooting, including 3 of 6 from behind the arc in and added five rebounds.

Three other Crimson Hawks (19-5, 10-2 PSAC West) scored in double figures. Ashton Smith (Scarborough, ON/West Hill Collegiate) followed up his player of the week selection with 14 points.

Kevin Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Academy Park) added 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Marcel Souberbielle (Montevideo, Uruguay/Uruguayan American School) came up one rebound short of a double-double with 10 points and nine boards.

With the score tied at 8 with 14:48 to play in the first half when the Crimson Hawks went on a 24-3 run to open up a 32-11 lead at the 5:38 mark in the first half.

The Bald Eagles (1-22, 0-12) closed the gap to 32-21 with a 10-0 run of their own capped by Joshua Eichenlaub's 3-pointer with 3:51 in the half. IUP countered with a 10-1 run to take a 42-22 lead into the half.

The Crimson Hawks dominated the boards with a 57-28 advantage on the glass led by 10 rebounds from Darryl Webb (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) and 21 offensive rebounds.

It was a record setting night for the IUP defense.  The 35 points scored by Lock Haven is the fewest by any opponent in school history and the 13 second half points is tied for the fourth fewest allowed in a half in school history.

IUP can claim the top spot in the PSAC West with wins in its final two games of the regular season.

The Crimson Hawks will play host to Lock Haven Wednesday at 7:30 at Memorial Field House and Mercyhurst Saturday, also at 7:30.
