IUP used a stifling defensive performance to get back on the winning track with a 73-32 win over Lock Haven at Thomas Fieldhouse.
The 32 points given up by the Crimson Hawks (17-7, 9-3 PSAC West) is the ninth fewest in school history and the fewest against a conference opponent since they gave up 29 on January 21, 2009 also to Lock Haven (11-12, 4-8).
The Crimson Hawks opened the game on 24-6 run getting points from five different players, including six from
Sarah Pastorek (Johnstown/Bishop McCort) as part of her game-high 18 points. Pastorek shot 6 of 9 from the field and 6 of 7 from the free throw line.
The Bald Eagles used a 13-2 run capped by Heather McHugh layup cut the lead to 26-19, but that was as close as it got.
IUP continued to dominate defensively in the second half allowing just nine points which is the third fewest points allowed in one half. The Crimson Hawks held Lock Haven to just 3 of 21 shooting in the second half.
Lacey Claar (Imler, Pa./Claysburg-Kimmel) joined Pastorek in double figures with 11 points, shooting 3 of 3 from beyond the arc. Claar also chipped in six rebounds and five helpers.
Emily Daughtry led the Bald Eagles with 11 points and six rebounds.
The Crimson Hawks will host Lock Haven Wednesday night at 5:30 at Memorial Field House.
